BMW has unveiled its latest electric SUV, the 2026 iX3, at the Munich Auto Show, marking the debut of the company’s new ‘Neue Klasse’ design language. The first variant, the iX3 50 xDrive, features two electric motors delivering a combined output of 463 hp. The SUV is expected to reach the US market next summer with a starting price of around $60,000 (approximately ₹53 lakh).
Design Highlights
The iX3 blends traditional BMW styling with modern electric SUV cues. The front fascia features tall, slim kidney grilles integrated with triangular LED headlights, creating a sleek, futuristic look. The side profile resembles a wagon, complete with defined wheel arches that give the SUV a muscular stance.
Futuristic Interior
Inside, the iX3 takes inspiration from BMW’s iX model. It features a unique steering wheel with stanchions at the 12 and 6 o’clock positions. Button pods are separate from the wheel rim and light up only when activated, offering a modern and minimalist interface.
Advanced Technology
The SUV introduces a 43-inch panoramic strip on the windshield, serving as the new Panoramic iDrive gauge cluster. It also has a 17.9-inch touchscreen running BMW’s latest infotainment software. Power comes from a front induction motor and a rear current-excited synchronous motor, producing 463 hp and 645 Nm of torque.
Battery and Range
The iX3 is equipped with a 109 kWh battery pack, delivering up to 805 km of range on the WLTP cycle. For US markets, the EPA range is expected to reach 644 km. The battery uses cylindrical cells, improving energy density by 20% compared to prismatic cells. It also supports ultra-fast charging at 400 kW, adding approximately 372 km of range in just 10 minutes.
The 2026 BMW iX3 sets a new benchmark for electric SUVs, combining long range, advanced technology, and the brand’s refreshed design language in a stylish, performance-oriented package.
